With the versatility of TRX Suspension Training® you’ll have a portable fitness solution to train clients and yourself in any setting. You’ll learn how to properly perform and cue foundational Suspension Training exercises as well as the benefits and target muscles of the exercises. Learn modifications and progressions to adapt the exercises to every fitness level.
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Properly perform a variety of Suspension Training exercises
  • Progress and regress exercises for all fitness levels
  • Adjust resistance and stability for all exercises
  • Cue and correct common faults
  • Correctly set up and use the TRX Suspension Trainer

PREREQUISITES: There are no Prerequisites to take this TRX Professional Education Course.

YogaFit for Warriors (PTSD) 01/27/2018 – 01/28/2018

This trauma-­sensitive yoga workshop zeros in on Post-­Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Trauma Brain Injury (TBI), the long­term effects each one has on the mind, body, and spirit, and how yoga can bring relief. Anyone suffering from trauma—military men and women, and their families; first responders; victims of violence or abuse—as well as the mental health professionals working with them will benefit from this two-day intensive.

Note: YogaFit for Warriors intensive training hours count as an elective either for the 200­-hour or the 300­-hour training, but not both. This two­-day workshop also counts toward YogaFit for Warriors 100- and 140-hour certifications as well as YogaFit Healthcare 900-hour certification.

Meditation and Mindfulness 02/23/2018

The first step on the path toward becoming a yoga teacher or simply deepening your practice, Level One provides the tools to create inspiring vinyasa yoga classes grounded in proper alignment and the safety of exercise science.

Note: In order to receive a Certificate of Completion for Level One, you must also complete eight hours of practice teaching as a community service, in which you bring the gift of yoga, free of charge, to individuals who would not normally be exposed to yoga on a regular basis.

Friday, Sept. 22, 2017: Step It Up! The Benefits of Walking and Call to Action

Presenter: Melanie Schiele-Gady – Exercise Science Professor

Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Location: Calkins Science Center Room 122

The United States Surgeon General has put a “Call to Action” to promote walking and walkable communities.  Let’s take this call to action on as college and community! In this session we will talk about the benefits of walking in regards to health, wellness and quality of life, and the United States Surgeon Generals “Call to Action” Step it Up Plan.  We will then enjoy a 2+ mile walk together outside (Inclement Weather Location: Ford Fieldhouse Gym).

This session will explain what circuit training is and how it can be used to improve fitness and provide variety to your workout.  This 15 minute lecture will be followed by a 20 minute workout session.

 

Friday, Nov. 3, 2017: Healthier Kids Grow Into Healthier Adults

Presenter: Sherry Knoppers – Nursing Professor

This session will emphasize the importance of proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and physical activity for overall health in kids and adults.  Understanding the importance of maintaining good habits is a great way to promote health through all years of life.
